The pupils in Tiermohan had a very interesting visit to Maynooth Library recently where they were treated to printing workshop. Staff from the Print Museum talked about the history of printing and showed the pupils how a compositor worked. Finally each child had an opportunity to create a "Wanted" poster with their own name in the centre. When each group had finished printing, they made hats from paper. modelled on hats printers would have worn in days gone by.

Today we had a wonderful international experience. Fr Clem from Malawi enthralled the senior classes with stories of life in his home country. He explained some of the traditions of his people, and emphasised the respect for the elders inherent in all they do. David Gildea, who worked in a volunteer capacity during the summer in Malawi, brought some craft items made in Malawi and Fr Clem explained the origin of each. When Fr Clem modelled the wooden mask, we were reminded of hallowe'en in Ireland! It was a wonderful experience and one the children will remember for a long time.

The boys of Tiermohan were beaten by a very strong Clogherince last week. The final score was 5-10 to 2-3.
Today, the boys were joined by some of the Cappagh girls and this produced some excellent scores. The opposition was Allenwood, but despite a very tight finish, it finished 4-7 to 4-10 to Allenwood.

Knex Challenge!
On Tuesday 17th April, we took part in the Knex Challenge. Mr John Stack from SIAC explained the challenge and the children from 4th and 5th classes got to work. Their task was to make a rescue boat from Knex pieces. It was necessary for each boat to have a mast for radio contact, a ladder for rescue and a cabin for the crew.
All of the finished boats were commended but the winning boat belonged to I. Dunne and T. Butler. They will now represent the school in the regional finals to be held in INTEL.
Here are some of the entries.

Boys in Basketball final!
Today the Tiermohan boys reached the final in the basketball blitz which was held in Kilcullen.
They beat Allen 14-4 and took two points from their next game against Newbridge Educate Together. Unfortunately they were beaten 11-8 by St Patrick's. Tiermohan boys continued by beating Kilberry 12-8 which brought them to the semi-finals.
They were comfortable winners over Kilashee, beating them by 12-2.
The final was a different affair however, with Tiermohan and St Patrick's matching each other basket for basket during the first half. The second half saw St Patrick's pulling ahead and finishing up at 18-7. Our boys were happy coming home with silver medals, aware they had all played their best for their school. Once again, many thanks to our drivers and supporters and to Joe O' Connor who organised the blitz.
